Â
The North Texas women's golf team returns to action after a strong showing at the ICON Invitational to compete at the Entrada Classic, hosted by BYU.
Â
THE EVENT: Entrada at Snow Canyon Country Club will play as a par-72 course at 6,082Â yards. The teams will play 36 holes on Monday starting at 9:30 a.m., with a shotgun start, and will have a shotgun start on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m., to close out the tournament with the final 18 holes.
Â
THE FIELD: There are 12 teams participating in the tournament: Boise State, BYU, Idaho, Iowa, Northern Illinois, North Texas, Portland State, Princeton, Santa Clara, Southern Utah, Utah Valley and Wyoming.
Â
REPRESENTING UNT: Competing for the Mean Green will be Lauren Cox, Audrey Tan, Patricia Sinolungan and Audrey Tan, Katie Finley and Emilie Ricaud. Marija Jucmane will compete as an individual.
Â
RESULTS: Final results will be posted on GolfStat.com. A full recap will be posted on MeanGreenSports.com at the end of the day.
Â
LAST TIME OUT: North Texas finished sixth out of 14 teams at the ICON Invitational and topped three top-32 teams while finishing just seven shots back of No. 1 Texas. Ricaud and Cox led the way for North Texas, tying for 15th, at 2-over par.
Â
MOVING UP: North Texas has made significant strides since head Michael Akers took over roughly four years ago. The Mean Green were ranked No. 201 following the 2015-16 season, and since Akers arrived in Denton, UNT has soared as many as 148 spots from that time. The Mean Green ended last season ranked No. 89, but climbed as high as No. 79. Now, the team is ranked No. 55 in the latest GolfStat poll.
Â
AKERS SAYS: "This is an event where my previous team (at Texas State) won back in 2012. (Graduate assistant coach) Krista (Puisite) was part of that team, so we have great memories and knowledge of the course. There are some very big differences from our current conditions here in DFW. The grass is different, the elevation is different and the conditions should be firm and fast. Our sights are set to play the golf course and not the other teams. It is vital we have a great practice round and learn how to manage the lava holes (Holes 15,16,17). I have already addressed to the team that other people create hype about those holes but we will not listen and simply play the holes with intelligence."
Â
UP NEXT: North Texas will head to the Mountainview Collegiate, in Tucson, Arizona, on March 20-22.
