DENTON — The North Texas men's basketball team and its head coach Grant McCasland on Wednesday finalized the National Letter of Intent signing of 6-foot-9 with a 7-foot-3 wingspan forward Abou Ousmane, who joins the Mean Green from prep school Scotland Campus in Scotland, Pennsylvania.
At Scotland, Ousmane led his squad to a 40-4 record while averaging 15 points and 10 rebounds per game. He led the Knights to a GAC championship. A highlight of his 2019-20 prep season was his 32-point and 22-rebound performance he had in January and a 27-point and 19-rebound game soon after.Â
A three-star recruit according to Rivals, Ousmane played his grass-roots basketball with NE6 on the UnderArmour circuit and with the New York-based Riverside Hawks.
Prior to attending the prep school, Ousmane was at Putnam Science where he averaged 10.3 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. Â
Ousmane joins a UNT recruiting class that so far includes soon-to-be Yates High School (Houston, TX) graduate Rubin Jones who signed with the Mean Green in November and junior college transfer Mardrez McBride. It's a recruiting class that Rivals ranks No. 1 in Conference USA, No. 5 in the state of Texas and No. 53 in the nation.Â
UNT is the defending 2020 C-USA regular season champions after going 14-4 in league play at beating Western Kentucky 78-72 in overtime in Denton on March 1. It was the program's best league record in its 57-year history as a D1 program and its first conference league title in 31 years. Returning guard Javion Hamlet was named the league's player of the year.Â
