Which North Texas Team is the Best Ever?
4/20/2020 7:00:00 PM | Football, General
There have been many great football teams in North Texas history and now is the time to decide which one is the all-time best. Is it the 10-win team of 1947 that beat the University of Florida? The 1959 bowl team that featured Abner Haynes and held opponents to just 9.4 points per game? How about the three teams that featured Joe Greene, or Hayden Fry's 1977 team that finished the season ranked No. 16 in the nation? How would you stack up the four straight New Orleans Bowl teams vs. the 2013 Heart of Dallas Bowl championship team or the nine-win teams of 2017 and 2018?
Over the next several weeks, fans will have a chance to weigh in with their opinions, observations, memories as we pit the best teams in school history against each other in a 16-team bracket. The teams have been broken up into four "regions" based on era and seeded 1-4 within those "regions". Winners of each matchup will be decided by a combination of social media voting and a special committee of UNT alums from each era dating back to the 1950's.
Each team has supporting information to help fans decide, including points scored and allowed, total offense and defense averages, all-conference selections, etc. Check back to MeanGreenSports.com often as we will have at least two matchups per week, starting Tuesday, April 21.
This is your chance to help decide if your team is the best Eagles/Mean Green team ever!
