Beyond The Green: Survive And Advance
4/8/2020 1:00:00 PM | Women's Basketball
The 2019-20 North Texas women's basketball season began with a full roster of proven returners mixed with a group of heralded freshmen. Throughout the year, the Mean Green scored 114 points in a single game, the highest total recorded by a Conference USA team and opened league play with an impressive win over Western Kentucky.
However, injuries took a toll on the squad as North Texas suited up just eight players for nearly half of the entire season. Playing extended minutes and relying on a thin bench, those elite eight survived and put up 94 points against UTSA and closed out the regular season with an important win over UTEP to advance to the C-USA Championships.
Head Coach Jalie Mitchell allowed us an inside look of their journey into the tournament and a breakdown of the opening round game.
