DENTON - In an ongoing series, members of the UNT women's golf team will tell fans a bit about themselves, answering some questions about golf and some about off-the-wall topics. This week's installment is with senior Lauren Cox, who has quickly become the most decorated player in program history and has a name for her trusty putter.

Q: How old were you when you started playing golf and why were you initially interested in the game?
A: I was 9 years old. My parents and my brother played, and I thought it was fun. Also, my mom let me drive the golf cart and I thought that was fun.
Q: Why did you keep playing golf? Was it just a matter of you realizing you were good or was it something more?
A: I played a lot of team sports growing up. I really liked being on a team, but I also really liked being good at something on my own. I enjoyed the challenge of golf and wanted to work to keep getting better.
Q: What other sports did you play as a kid, and what were you best at?
A: I did dance and gymnastics and played basketball, softball, volleyball and ran track and cross country. Other than golf, I really liked basketball and track. I had great coaches and I met some of my best friends playing sports. I still run every day, so track probably stuck with me the most.
Q: What events did you compete in in track?
A: I ran the 400, 800, 400 relay, 1,600 and 2,400.
Q: Who's the fastest runner on the team?
A: Haha. I'm not sure. Right now, I'm just trying to convince them to like running. Patty's (Sinolungan) with me though, and she also likes to run.

Q: What is your favorite golf memory?
A: My most recent golf memory, which was winning with our team in Utah.
Editor's note: Lauren also won the individual title at the BYU Entrada Classic!
Q: What is the best course you've ever played?
A: The prettiest golf course I've ever played was the Ocean Club in The Bahamas.
Q: What is your favorite club in your bag?
A: My putter, Honey.
Q: You named your putter Honey?
A: Coach Akers took me to see Marius Filmalter to get fitted for a new putter my sophomore year. Marius says that you have to love your putter and name it because it gets lonely out on the putting green. LOL. I picked out a Bettinardi Queen Bee putter, and the name Honey seemed fitting.
Q: What is your favorite thing about the game?
A: Making lots of putts.

Q: Who has been the biggest inspiration to you throughout the years?
A: In high school and in college, I've always had really great coaches who inspired me to do my best.
Q: Why did you choose UNT?
A: It was a great opportunity I was given to keep playing my favorite game.

Q: What is your favorite hobby when you're not playing golf?
A: Running.
Q: You can take three things to a deserted island, what do you take?
A: Water, golf clubs and a Chick-Fil-A.
Q: If you could have dinner with three people - dead or alive - who would it be?
A: Right now, I'd have to say to my entire team. We have so much fun during the season, and I can't wait to see them all again.
Q: What is the best movie ever made?
A: A Cinderella Story, starring Chad Michael Murray and Hillary Duff.
Q: What is your favorite TV show on Netflix?
A: Scandal.
Q: How long did it take you to watch Tiger King?
A: I haven't seen it.

Q: Who is your favorite band or musician?
A: Kenny Chesney.
Q: Who on the team has the best taste in music, aside from yourself? Who has the worst?
A: Best - Audrey Tan. Worst - Coach Akers! (Sorry, Coach Akers!)
Q: Dogs or cats?
A: I have a cat named Maggie.

Q: What is your favorite type of food?
A: Chicken nuggets (from Chick-Fil-A, of course)
Q: You just won the Par 3 challenge, which restaurant are you choosing for the champions dinner?
A: P.F. Chang's!
Q: You have one day left on Earth, what is your last meal?
A: Honey chicken and brown rice from P.F. Chang's
Q: Favorite type of dessert?
A: Ice cream
Q: As part of a possibly the most culturally diverse program on campus, which of your teammates' home countries would you want to visit the most, and why?
A: I would love to visit them all. My teammates are from such cool places. But I'd have to go with New Caledonia first. It looks like a beautiful island from what Emilie has shown us.
