A Year In Waiting…Destiny Brooks

DENTON – Destiny Brooks will suit up for North Texas women's basketball as a redshirt junior following two seasons at Cal State Northridge.
The 5-6 guard from Gilmer High School scored a career-high 24 points as a freshman at CSUN in the NCAA Tournament against Notre Dame while tying the school record for 3-pointers with eight. Throughout her two seasons, Brooks appeared in 44 contests with seven starts and posted career averages of 4.8 points, 1.3 rebounds and one assist.
"The most difficult part of sitting out for a season was not being able to contribute physically on the court," Brooks said. "You couldn't get out there and get a defensive stop when it was needed or make a clutch shot; you just had to sit there and watch."
"Destiny is an energy giver," head coach Jalie Mitchell said. "If you need someone to feed off of, she's your woman. She has always been conscious of her platform and impact. It shows in the way she plays the game!
"Destiny is a combo guard with the ability to shoot, handle and make the right decisions with the ball. She is fearless, selfless and a competitor at heart. I love that she brings with her championship experience and leadership. We got better the day she joined the Mean Green. I can't wait to see her back on the court!"
"After watching from the sidelines, you gain a new perspective of the game, which is a benefit," Brooks said. "You see the things you may not be able to see while you're in a game going full speed. Sitting out gives you a deeper understanding of the game.
"The thing I'm most looking forward to is having my family in the stands for the first time in my collegiate career. This will be my third year in college, and this will be the first ever game they will be at to watch in person, so, I'm very excited about that. This is the whole reason as to why I transferred, and it's finally getting to happen!"
