Volleyball receives USMC/AVCA Academic Award

LEXINGTON, KY – The North Texas volleyball team racked up its second academic award in the span of a week after earning the United States Marine Corps/American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award on Monday.
The award honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade point average of 3.30 on a 4.0 scale. North Texas finished the 2019-2020 academic year with a 3.70 cumulative GPA and had 10 women reach the President's List while the remaining four worked their way onto the Dean's List.
This is the ninth USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award the Mean Green have received in the last 10 seasons. North Texas was also awarded the C-USA Sport Academic Award last week for posting the highest GPA among all C-USA volleyball squads.
"I'm excited for this recognition because our players worked hard during this pandemic," head coach Andrew Palileo said last week. "The accountability that they each held for themselves resulted in a great team effort. I'm proud of our team for their hard work in the classroom, and they are receiving the recognition they deserve."
The USMC and AVCA teamed up to honor over 1,313 high school and collegiate teams around the nation, which tops last year's record by almost 200 teams.
