DENTON - While the landscape of intercollegiate athletics has changed daily since March, one thing that has remained constant is the need to support our student-athletes. The financial challenges associated with the COVID-19 pandemic are apparent and real.
Recently, loyal supporter of Mean Green athletics Jerome "Bruzzy" Westheimer donated $25,000 to go towards student-athlete scholarships and expenses. In a letter written to athletics staff, Westheimer expresses that "Scholarships for student-athletes need to be paid moving forward." During times of uncertainty, supporters like Westheimer are invaluable. "I am proud to have the resources to continue to help those students who came after I graduated North Texas."
"I've continued to be amazed by our supporters over the past few months. Philanthropic support for UNT athletics will be more important in the coming months than it has ever been" says UNT Vice President and Director of Athletics Wren Baker.
To help us attack this challenge, UNT Athletics and the Mean Green Scholarship Fund are introducing the "UNiTe Initiative" to support our student-athletes.
