DENTON - Concluding our ongoing series in which members of the UNT women's golf team tell fans a bit about themselves, answering some questions about golf and some about off-the-wall topics, we get to know our new assistant coach! Lindsey McCurdy, aka Birdie McCurdy, tells us about why she loves collegiate golf and why she is always trying to get her car up to 88 mph.

Q: How old were you when you started playing golf?
A: I was 6 years old.
Q: Why were you initially interested in playing golf?
A: My dad got me into it. We lived on a golf course, so we would either walk out and play the hole we lived on, or we would go to the driving range.
Q: Why did you keep playing golf? Was it just a matter of realizing you were pretty good or was it something more than that?
A: I kept playing because I loved competing. Growing up, I played just about every sport I could. Once I got to high school, my parents suggested I pick two. My two favorites were basketball and golf, so I played those throughout high school, but I knew golf would be the sport I wanted to play in college.
Q: What is your favorite thing about the game?
A: My favorite thing about playing is traveling, seeing new courses and places and meeting new people along the way.
Q: What is your favorite club in your bag?
A: I'd have to go with my 3-wood since it's definitely the oldest one in my bag! I've had it since my freshman year of college and just can't seem to get rid of it.
Q: What is the best course you've ever played?
A: Mystic Creek Golf Course in El Dorado, Arkansas. It is the most challenging course I have ever played, but it is so fun. We played it on the LPGA Symetra Tour. Usually, the cut line after two days on Tour is around even-par, but in 2019, the cut line there was 12-over. Wow.
Q: What is your favorite golf memory?
A: My favorite memory was winning state in high school. Since I was competing as an individual, I was pretty nervous, but the support I got from my friends and school was a pretty amazing feeling. I had so many people out watching and cheering me on, so it was a lot of fun.

Q: Who has been your biggest inspiration through the years?
A: My mom. She is the most selfless and hard-working person I know. She inspires me to pursue my dreams and always believes in me. I love you, mom!
Q: What is your favorite hobby when you're not playing golf?
A: I love to cook, spend time with my family, hike and watch Netflix.
Q: What are you most looking forward to about coaching college golf?
A: I am looking forward to being a part of a team again. I had a great college experience and love coaching. I have been coaching junior golf for the last few years, so moving to college-level golf will be a new but exciting challenge. I will also enjoy traveling, as that was my favorite part of college golf!

Q: Are you a dog or cat person? Do you have any pets?
A: Dogs, but I love cats, too. I have two dogs (Chuy and Tully) and a cat (Pants). I have a sticker on the back of my car that says, “Tell your dog I said hi.”
Q: You can take three things with you to a deserted island, what do you take?
A: My camper (is that cheating?), my pets, my family. I'm set!
Q: If you could have dinner with three people - dead or alive - who would it be?
A: Neil deGrasse Tyson, Conan O'Brien and Arnold Palmer.

Q: What is the best movie ever made?
A: Since I was little, I have loved the Back to the Future trilogy. I think I know every word.
Q: Great choice. What's your favorite one? Do you have a favorite moment?
A: I love that Doc never looks different. That's a funny touch they add. But I also like that they call Marty “Calvin” in the first movie. I'm not sure what my favorite parts are. I also loved the second movie because of what they thought the future would be like. Now I want to go watch them again to really figure out my favorite moment!
Q: How long did it take you to watch “Tiger King”?
A: Not long at all. We watched it in quarantine. I actually went to high school with Joe's latest husband.
Q: What is your favorite TV show?
A: Currently, “Love on the Spectrum" on Netflix. It's so good!
Q: Who is your favorite band or musician?
A: John Mayer

Q: What is your favorite type of food?
A: Any Mexican food, but my favorite thing to order is nachos!
Q: You can pick any restaurant in the world to eat a meal, and the tab is covered. Where are you going?
A: Hmm. I don't really know fancy restaurants too well. So instead, I'd make my boyfriend whip up something fancy for me! He went to culinary school and is currently a pastry chef. So I'd be happy with that!
Q: You have one day left on Earth, what's your last meal?
A: See above.
Q: Favorite type of dessert?
A: Ice cream!
Q: Which of the players' home countries would you most like to visit and why?
A: Emilie's. I had never even heard of New Caledonia, but it sounds like an awesome place!
