DENTON – North Texas looks to make a jump from its 2019 season and the time is here to shift the focus forward and continue to build on the program's foundation heading into head coach Seth Littrell's fifth season in charge. Mean Green student-athletes reported Thursday for fall camp, which kicks off with the first practice Friday morning.
It has been a challenging offseason to say the least for programs around the country with everything surrounding the CoVID-19 pandemic. UNT was one of several programs who lost spring ball, and got onto the field for the first time as a team over the past two weeks with eight walk-thru sessions. With those in the rearview mirror, fall camp is set to begin and the next countdown is for the season-opener at Apogee Stadium on Sept. 5 against Houston Baptist.
There are five new faces on the coaching staff with the appointments of defensive coordinator and safeties coach Clint Bowen, co-offensive coordinator and offensive line coach Mike Bloesch, special teams coordinator Mike Ekeler, defensive line coach Eric Mathies, and quarterbacks coach Tate Wallis. UNT also added quality control assistant Steven Haunga and recruiting operations coordinator Mackenzie Morris.
Maxwell and Biletnikoff Award hopeful Jaelon Darden and Nagurski and Outland Trophy hopeful Dion Novil lead each respective side of the ball for a Mean Green team keen to turn the page from a frustrating 2019 season.
Mean Green student-athletes opened Thursday with a series of team and positional meetings. Now it's time to kick things off Friday morning from the Lovelace and McNatt Families Practice Facility with practice number one.
