DENTON – After a long wait, the North Texas volleyball team began fall camp on Friday morning. This is the first time the Mean Green have worked out as a team since spring volleyball practices in March.
"Like most programs starting this week, we are all ready to just get back in the gym being with each other and enjoying the competition," head coach Andrew Palileo said. "We will prepare like we always have. I'm excited for the potential of this team, and if we focus on getting better and challenging each other every day in practice, then I know this team can do some special things."
The preseason practices will be held until the first week of school, when the Mean Green begin their regular season practice schedule. The Mean Green head into 2020 showcasing one of the more experienced squads in program history, with six starters and 10 lettermen returning from a 17-11 season.
North Texas will rely on its seniors -- which include All-Conference players in Valerie Valerian and Kaliegh Skopal -- to lead the charge in 2020, while five true freshman and a redshirt freshman transfer add depth and talent to an already potent lineup.
"We're very excited to get back in the gym together and start competing again," redshirt junior Henrianna Ibarra said. "We're all uncertain for what this season holds, but when the games begin we'll bring a championship mindset."
