DENTON — The North Texas men's basketball team hosts UTEP on Saturday at 3 p.m. for the second time in as many days. UNT beat the Miners on Friday in record-setting fashion to the tune of 66-33.

After a slow start to the game that saw the Mean Green (6-5, 2-1) have more turnovers than points, they quickly put everything together and had head coach Grant McCasland calling his team's performance one of the best executed games they've had in his 3-plus years at UNT.

Well executed offense for North Texas led to no transition points all game for UTEP (6-5, 2-3) who thrive in that area of the game.

As a result, UNT held the Miners to 33 points, which is the fewest points they've ever allowed to an opponent as a DI program.

McCasland knows though that the challenge is now to be able to replicate Friday's performance in less than 24 hours against a UTEP team that prior to Friday was averaging 77 points per game and beat then nationally ranked Arizona State on the road.

Saturday's game will be streamed on Stadium and the Mean Green Sports Network Learfield IMG College.

North Texas enters Saturday with a 6-5 overall record and 2-1 C-USA record.
The Mean Green have won 15 of their last 16 home games and six in a row.
North Texas held UTEP to 33 points on Friday the fewest points the Mean Green have given up in a single game as a DI program. The Mean Green moved to the DI ranks in 1957. The previous low was 34 against Maryland Eastern Shore in 2018.
UNT has held their last seven opponents (UTSA twice) below their respective season scoring averages. UNT has held those last seven opponents to an average of 16.4 points below their season scoring average including Loyola Chicago who UNT held to 24 points below their season scoring average of 81 and UTEP who they held to 44 points below their season scoring average.
North Texas made 8 3-pointers on Friday. They have won 13 of its last 14 games when making 8+ 3 pointers.
The Mean Green are 6-10 all-time versus UTEP. Under Grant McCasland UNT is 4-1 versus UTEP and 3-0 against current Miners coach Rodney Terry.
After Friday's win, UNT now has 26 charges drawn on the year. They had 52 last year.
After Saturday, UNT hits the road play at Old Dominion. UNT beat the Monarchs last season for the first time in program history. They won 64-47 in Denton.
