DENTON – The North Texas football team will battle four opponents from Texas in 2021, will open the season and Conference USA play at Apogee Stadium, and will face four opponents that played in a 2020 bowl game (and two more who had their games canceled) in its 2021 schedule, which was released by C-USA Wednesday afternoon.
North Texas will play six home and six road contests in 2021 and will have a bye week on Oct. 2.
2021 football season ticket renewals will be available through the Mean Green Athletics Ticket Office beginning in early February. Season ticket holders will receive notification of their invoice via the email address on file with the ticket office. Please note that invoices will be based on seating from the 2019 season. Fans interested in becoming new season ticket holders for the 2021 season may fill out the form HERE to have a North Texas athletics representative follow up with them. Any ticket-related questions may be directed to the Mean Green Athletics Ticket Office via email at ticketoffice@unt.edu or by phone at (940) 565-2527.
North Texas, which went 4-6 in an abbreviated 2020 season due to coVID-19, and fell in the Myrtle Beach Bowl, will face four non-conference opponents in 2020: home contests against Northwestern State and Liberty, and games on the road at Metroplex rival SMU and Missouri.
The Mean Green open the season at Apogee Stadium against FCS foe Northwestern State on Sept. 4. On Sept. 11, UNT makes the short trip to Dallas to take on SMU, before returning home to host defending Conference USA champion UAB on Sept. 18 to open Conference USA play. On Sept. 25, the Mean Green travel to Ruston, Louisiana, to take on the Bulldogs. 2021 marks the eighth straight season that UNT and SMU will meet and the 41st meeting all-time. This is the sixth consecutive year that the Mean Green will open the season at home.
North Texas then has its bye week before hitting the road to battle the SEC's Missouri Tigers in Columbia, Missouri, on October 10. The following week, the Mean Green return home to Apogee Stadium to host the defending C-USA East Division champions, the Marshall Thundering Herd.
The Mean Green then conclude their non-conference slate on Oct. 23, when North Texas hosts the Liberty Flames. UNT and Liberty met back in the 2018 season, when the Mean Green defeated the Flames 47-7 in Lynchburg, Virginia.
The Mean Green resume C-USA play with a trip to Houston for a Halloween weekend date with Rice on Oct. 30, before remaining on the road to take on Southern Miss on Nov. 6.
North Texas then returns home to host UTEP from Apogee Stadium on Nov. 13 in Denton, before traveling to Miami to take on FIU on Nov. 20. UNT closes out the regular season at home against UTSA on Nov. 27 from Apogee Stadium.
It is important to note that all games are subject to date changes and some dates are expected to move in the coming weeks in order to accommodate national television partners. A schedule of televised games will be released at a later date.
