DENTON – The North Texas volleyball team announced its spring schedule for the 2020-2021 season. Due to the NCAA postponing women's volleyball championships to the spring, the Mean Green volleyball team shifted their regular season to the spring semester.
North Texas will open its 2020-2021 season at the North Texas Volleyball Center with back-to-back matches against metroplex rival SMU on Jan. 22-23. The Mean Green will then hit the road the following week to play at Wichita State on Jan. 28-29.
UNT plans on playing 22 total matches – 12 Conference USA and 10 non-conference. In addition to SMU and Wichita State, the Mean Green will split a home-and-home series with No. 6 Baylor and [RV] Texas State in non-conference play. They will also host Big 12 foe Texas Tech and UT Arlington.
See full schedule on the schedule page of the website.
"We're fortunate to put together a competitive non-conference schedule with the uncertainty of so many conferences," head coach Andrew Palileo said. "We're excited about the challenge of this schedule as we prep for the conference season."
There will be no changes to the C-USA Volleyball Tournament at the end of the season. C-USA still plans on having an eight-team tournament in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, that will determine who receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament in April 2021.
The NCAA tournament, will be reduced from 64 teams to 48 teams, with 32 automatic bids and 16 at-large bids. The 2021 NCAA Volleyball Final Four will be held in Omaha, Nebraska, from April 23-25.
