DENTON – With the National Football League's 2020 regular  season coming to an end, MeanGreenSports.com presents fans with the wrap-up of the 2020 rendition of #NFLMeanGreen. North Texas saw three former players make impacts on their given teams and with one alum still playing for a chance to win Super Bowl LV in February.
Â
Jeffery Wilson made noise during his third season for the San Francisco 49ers, who finished the year at 6-10 and fourth in the NFC West standings. Wilson led the 49ers in rushing yards, attempts and touchdowns with a career-high 600 yards on 126 carries and seven touchdowns. The Elkhart, Texas, native also hauled in 13 catches for 133 yards and three more scores, which were also career-highs. Wilson's highlight game of the year came in week seven when he rushed 17 times for 112 yards and three touchdowns in the 49ers 33-6 victory over the New England Patriots, the performance earned him FedEx Ground Player of the Week honors. In three games as the 49ers' featured back, Wilson carried 59 times for 371 yards (6.29 yards per carry) and four touchdowns, while also catching six passes for 41 yards and two more touchdowns.
Â
Jalen Guyton appeared in all 16 games and made nine starts during his first full NFL season with the Los Angeles Chargers, who finished the year at 7-9 and third in the AFC West standings. Guyton hauled in 28 catches for 511 yards and three touchdowns, and average of 31.9 yards per game. The former Mean Green wideout's best game came in week seven when he caught two passes for 84 yards and a touchdown in the Chargers 39-29 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Â
Craig Robertson, who just finished his ninth NFL season, will make a playoff appearance as the New Orleans Saints finished the year at 12-4 and won the NFC South division crown for the fourth consecutive season. Robertson appeared in all 16 games for the Saints and recorded seven tackles while forcing one fumble, primarily in a special teams role during the 2020 campaign. The Saints start their playoff journey on Sunday as they take on the Chicago Bears (8-8) in the Wild Card round, kickoff is set for 3:40 p.m. on CBS.
Â
With the NFL's regular season coming to an end, teams were able to sign free agents and practice squad players to what are known as reserve/futures contracts. These contracts allow the NFL teams to claim the rights of players for the upcoming season, this makes it where players cannot be signed by any other team and guarantees them a spot at the upcoming training camp. Former Mean Green defensive lineman LaDarius Hamilton and former defensive back Kemon Hall were both signed by the Dallas Cowboys to futures contracts, giving them a chance to make the Cowboys active roster at Training Camp.
