DENTON — Senior outside hitter Rhett Robinson has been named the American Volleyball Coaches Association National Player of the Week for her performances against UAB on October 15 and 16.
Robinson becomes just the second player in North Texas volleyball history to win AVCA National Player of the Week honors, joining former Mean Green standout and All-American Carnae Dillard, who took home the honor in November 2014.
"I'm really excited for Rhett," head coach Andrew Palileo said. "It's a great honor. There's a lot of competition and a lot of players deserve this award each week. She had a great week, leading our team. I'm proud of the work she's put in and the energy she's provided for our team."
The Krum, TX native put together one of the strongest performances of her season with a combined 45 kills in a pair of victories over UAB this past weekend. She was named Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week Monday for the second time this year.
She posted 22 in Friday's match on 34 attacks for a .559 attack percentage. The senior outside hitter from Krum, Texas then posted 23 kills on 58 attacks Saturday for a .293 attack percentage. She hit .391 overall for the weekend, and averaged 6.43 kills per set along with a total of 51.5 total points for a 7.36 points/set average across seven sets. Robinson also added seven blocks (1.00 blocks/set), two aces and 16 digs (2.29 digs/set) against the Blazers.
Robinson and the rest of the Mean Green volleyball team will be back in action on Thursday, October 21 when they host the first of two games against UTSA at the North Texas Volleyball Center.
