Â
LAST TIME OUT:Â UNT finished 12th at the Schooner Fall Classic in Norman, Oklahoma, and the Mean Green were led by Katie Finley, who tied for 15th.
Â
MOVING UP: North Texas has made significant strides since head coach Michael Akers took over roughly five years ago. The Mean Green were ranked No. 201 following the 2015-16 season, and since Akers arrived in Denton, UNT has soared more than 150 spots from that time. The Mean Green ended last season ranked 36th.
THE GOAT: Lauren Cox, who graduated in the spring to finish off her stellar five-year Mean Green career, has been progressing through LPGA Q-School and has attained at least partial status on the Symetra Tour for the 2022 season, and she's currently on staff as an assistant coach.
Â
AKERSÂ SAYS:Â "We are excited to get to Kentucky and play an incredible course at Olde Stone," UNT coach Michael Akers said. "We have been focused on links style golf and spent extra time practicing bunkers. The forecast is for rain and storms so we have mentally prepared for that. We want to compete for first and head into the offseason with confidence."
UP NEXT:Â The Mean Green will begin their spring schedule on Feb. 13-15, at the Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate in New Orleans.
Â
NEW FACILITY: The Mean Green golf programs are thrilled to break in their brand new Bruzzy's UNT Golf Practice Facility, the new $3 million on-campus facility that features state-of-the-art technology, such as TrackMan, swing catalysts, indoor hitting bays, a short-game area and a PuttView indoor putting green.
