DENTON — North Texas volleyball will look to get back in the win column Thursday night when they host Tarleton State in the final home match of the 2021 season. The match gets underway at 7 p.m. on Thursday.
About the Mean Green: North Texas (14-9, 7-3) had their seven game conference winning streak and five match overall win streak snapped last Friday in a four set loss to UTSA. However, the Mean Green have still played very well over the last month, winning seven of their last nine contests overall. The only two defeats in that span was the aforementioned UTSA match, and a loss to #12 Baylor back on October 6.
Senior Rhett Robinson continues to lead the offensive charge for North Texas. The Krum, TX native crossed over the 400 kill mark on the season in Friday's loss to UTSA, bringing her total up to 404 on the year. She also passed former teammate Valerie Valerian for fifth place on the all-time kills list record at North Texas.
Other Mean Green Leaders: Kaliegh Skopal has continued to set the Mean Green's potent offensive attack, racking up 597 assists on the year.
Sarah Haeussler is still one of the most efficient players on North Texas' roster, holding a .351 hitting percentage. She also leads the team in blocks by a large margin with 95 in total.
Scouting the Texans: Tarleton (12-11, 2-3) has seen modest success this season, hovering around .500 for most of the year. The Texans are currently on a two game winning streak, most recently defeating Incarnate Word this past Tuesday. Both of their wins on the streak have been sweeps; Tarleton has not lost a set since falling to California Baptist back on October 22.
Series History: Thursday's match will mark the fifth time North Texas and Tarleton have met on the court. It will also be the first meeting since 1983. The Mean Green lead the all time series 4-0.
