Owens named C-USA Freshman of the Week

DENTON — Outside hitter Andrea Owens was named Conference USA Freshman of the Week for her performances on October 1-2.
Owens had a career outing in a pair of matches against Louisiana Tech, posting 28 total kills (4.00/set) and 12 digs (1.71/set) in a pair of road victories. That included a career high 19 kills in a four set win against the Lady Techsters on Friday, in which she also had a .375 hitting percentage along with eight digs.
In the next match on Saturday, Owens contributed nine kills along with four digs as North Texas swept the Lady Techsters.
For the weekend, Owens hit a combined .273 and added three assists and two blocks over seven sets.
The Mean Green will be back in action on Wednesday at 6 p.m. when they host Baylor at the North Texas Volleyball Center.
