Shockers Outlast Mean Green, 67-64

DENTON, Texas – The North Texas women's basketball team dropped its third game of the season in heart breaking fashion. With 1:17 to go in the fourth quarter UNT squandered a five-point lead with turnovers and empty possessions on the offensive end of the floor.
It was a back-and-forth game that lived up to the hype. Two of the most elite rebounding teams in the country went toe-to-toe on Friday night. The Shockers just edged the Mean Green, 45-42 in total boards. The game saw more than 18 lead changes and was tied on 10 different occasions.
All was not lost, a shorthanded UNT squad saw bounce back games from Amber Dixon and Jazion Jackson. Dixon lit up the scoreboard with nine points in the third quarter alone. Dixon and Jackson both finished with 13 points apiece. Madison Townley did the best she could on the low block corralling a team-high 12 rebounds. Amy Gamez hit double-figures again with 17 points, leading the team in 3-pointers tonight. She has now registered 10-plus in five out of the last six contests.
North Texas will wrap up the non-conference slate next week when they travel to Oklahoma State on Dec. 21.
QUOTING HEAD COACH MITCHELL
"I thought it was a tough and competitive 40-minute game. It was a game I thought we had won but we had some poor clock management with under a minute to go. There were some different decisions we needed to make down the stretch. We will keep our head up and learn from this game."
