HATTIESBURG, MS — A day after beating Southern Miss 65-49 on Friday, the Mean Green men's basketball team returns to Reed Green Coliseum on Saturday for its second game versus the Golden Eagles.
Saturday's contest is scheduled to tip-off at 4 p.m. CT and will be broadcasted on ESPN+ and the Mean Green Sports Network Learfield IMG College.
UNT, which has won six of its last seven, beat USM for a third straight time on Friday behind a 16-point performance by Javion Hamlet who was the only scorer in double figures for either team. Hamlet scored 14 of his 16 in the second half as he guided his team to the 16-point victory.
Head coach Grant McCasland after the game credited his team's highly-ranked defense as the key to Friday's success. UNT contained the Golden Eagles to just 2-of-15 shooting from deep and outrebounded them 36 to 24.

NEWS AND NOTES
- After Friday's win, North Texas improved to 7-2 in conference. Through the first nine games of last season's league slate UNT was 8-1.
- With eight points scored on Friday, senior Zachary Simmons moved into 22nd place on the program's all-time scoring list with 1,019 career points. He surpassed 1989 Southland Player of the Year Deon Hunter who had 1,012 career points.
- Friday was the 36th time under fourth-year head coach Grant McCasland the Mean Green held an opponent to under 60 points. UNT is 30-6 when they hold an opponent to under 60 points in McCasland's four seasons.
- North Texas is now 7-0 under fourth-year head coach Grant McCasland when holding opponents to under 50 points.
- After Friday's win, UNT improved to 3-1 versus Southern Miss under fourth-year head coach Grant McCasland.
- Freshman Abou Ousmane grabbed a season-high seven rebounds on Friday versus USM. His previous best was five on Feb. 6 versus LA Tech.
- James Reese has made at least one 3-pointer in 13 straight games after Friday.
- During UNT's current two-game winning streak, Abou Ousmane leads the team in rebounding at 6.0 per game despite playing just 15 minutes per game.
- No one on UNT on Friday played more than 27 minutes (Javion Hamlet). It's the first conference game this year where no one played 30+ minutes.
- After Friday's win, the Mean Green still own the league's top field goal percentage for the year at 48.8 percent.
- UNT's 48.8% field goal percentage ranks 21st in the nation after Friday.
- UNT is giving up just 61.9 points per game, which ranks 16th in the nation but is second in C-USA behind UAB's 58.5 points per game.
- Thomas Bell was 2-for-2 from two-point range on Friday and is now 24-for-31 (.774) in league play from two-point range, which is the best in C-USA.
