DENTON, Texas – Quincy Noble knocked down a huge 3-pointer with less than two minutes to play to will North Texas to a 72-64 win over Southern Miss Saturday inside The Super Pit to garner the Mean Green's eighth conference victory of the season.
The series sweep over Southern Miss (6-8, 4-8 C-USA) allowed North Texas (11-4, 8-2 C-USA) to tie for the most Conference USA victories in program history. The Mean Green also earned eight league victories in 2016-17 during head coach Jalie Mitchell's second season. Regardless of conference affiliation, the most league wins ever is 12, when UNT went 12-3 while in the Sun Belt during Mitchell's senior season in 2001-02 under head coach Tina Slinker.
Hammond, La. - 21 outs, 21 strikeouts, senior Hope Trautwein helped the North Texas softball team respond after a season-opening loss to split opening weekend with a 6-2 victory over Southeastern Louisiana recording every possible out with a punch out.
The Pflugerville native tied her own program and Conference USA single-game record with the performance. Her first came last season at Texas A&M - Corpus Christi on February 21, 2020 during an eight inning game. She becomes just the third pitcher in NCAA Division I history to record 21 strikeouts during a seven inning game.
SAN ANTONIO – The Mean Green volleyball team's defense came ready to play on Saturday night. After moving the game to an abnormal 8 p.m. start due to weather conditions, North Texas recorded 112 digs and 15 total blocks en route to defeating UTSA 3-2 (25-23, 21-25, 25-19, 25-27, 15-13) for the program's first win at the Convocation Center since 1995.
North Texas improved to 3-4 and 1-2 in Conference USA on the season, while UTSA now sits at 2-5 and 0-1 in league play.
DENTON – Mike Bloesch has been promoted to offensive coordinator and primary playcaller, head coach Seth Littrell announced Thursday. Bloesch will continue as the team's offensive line coach in his new role.
"Coach Bloesch has earned this opportunity," Littrell said. "He was such a big part of our success offensively last season and is one of the brightest young offensive minds in the country. I'm very excited to see him continue to build on the foundation we have here to become more explosive and efficient offensively."
DALLAS - North Texas diver Meghan Miller has been named the Conference USA Diver of the Week, the conference office announced Wednesday.
Miller earns the honor after a personal record-setting meet against Little Rock this past weekend. During the meet, the senior became one of two Mean Green divers to qualify for the 2021 NCAA Zone Championships in the 1-meter. The Zone Championships serve as the preliminary round before the NCAA National Meet.
