FRISCO — The first round of the 2021 Air Force Reserve C-USA Men's Basketball Championship presented by Baylor Scott & White Medical Center Frisco is scheduled to tip-off for the Mean Green men's basketball team on Wednesday at 9 p.m. CT.
Wednesday, North Texas (13-9, 9-5) will face Middle Tennessee (5-17, 3-13) for the first time in a conference tournament since 2009 when they met in the quarterfinals of the Sun Belt Tournament. UNT won 88-79 in 2009. UNT is 2-0 all-time versus the Blue Raiders in conference tournaments.
Wednesday's contest will be broadcast on ESPN+ and the Mean Green Sports Network Learfield IMG College.
Along with a 2-0 record in conference tournaments against the Blue Raiders, UNT overall is on a two-game winning streak versus its first round opponent. North Texas and Middle Tennessee didn't play one another in the regular season this year but in their only meeting last year the Mean Green won 75-70 in Murfreesboro, Tennessee on Feb. 6, 2020. The year prior, UNT beat Middle Tennessee 70-53 at home on Jan. 26, 2019.
ALL-CONFERENCE
On Monday, North Texas' Javion Hamlet was named 2021 Conference USA First Team All-Conference. He becomes the first UNT men's basketball player since Chris Davis in 2003 to earn multiple first team all-conference honors. Hamlet is the seventh overall in program history to accomplish the multiple first team honor. Hamlet is the only Mean Green men's basketball player to earn a first team all-conference honor in C-USA. UNT moved to C-USA in 2013. Along with Hamlet, Mean Green freshman Rubin Jones was voted to the five-man C-USA all-freshman team honor. He is the third UNT freshman to be named to a C-USA all-freshman team.
C-USA CHAMPIONSHIP HISTORY
This is the seventh C-USA Championship the Mean Green have reached. They are 2-2 all-time in the first round — twice UNT played in a preliminary round. North Texas was the No. 1 overall seed in last season's C-USA Championship but didn't play a game due to the cancelation of the tournament, because of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, in 2019 the Mean Green beat FIU, 71-57, in the first round of the tournament.
MATCHUP HISTORY
North Texas and Middle Tennessee have played each other at least once every year since the 2000-01 season and have played a total of 24 times. UNT has won nine times and is 2-0 in postseason play.

- Second-year guard Javion Hamlet is 12 assists away from moving into the top 10 in program history for career assists. He enters Wednesday's game with 237 career assists.
