Skopal, Ibarra tabbed with C-USA weekly honors

DENTON -- After three wins last week, North Texas volleyball had two student-athletes named as conference players of the week at their respective positions. Setter Kaliegh Skopal was named the C-USA Setter of the Week, and defensive specialist Henrianna Ibarra received C-USA Defensive Player of the Week honors for their performances from March 17-22. All C-USA weekly honors are presented by Surf & Turf Golf.

This is Skopal's second C-USA Setter of the Week accolade of the 2020-21 season and the fifth of her career. Ibarra, who is in her first season back since recovering from two season-ending ACL injuries, is racking up her first career C-USA Defensive Player of the Week honor.

In a week that saw the Mean Green go 3-0 against Texas Tech and Southern Miss, Skopal averaged 11.90 assists-per-set, including a 48-assists performance in Monday's win at Southern Miss. Over the weekend, Skopal moved into ninth in program history in career assists (1,612). Defensively, the senior from Round Rock, Texas collected double-digit digs twice this week and leads the team with eight double-doubles on the season.

Ibarra had her best week of 2020-21 while helping the Mean Green extend their win streak to five. The redshirt junior libero was phenomenal on the back row, averaging 6.70 digs-per-set. During Monday's must-win match over Southern Miss, Ibarra tallied a career-best 31 digs, the fifth-most in program history for a four-set match. Ibarra also tied a season-high four assists in each of the wins versus Texas Tech and Southern Miss.

The Mean Green will close out the regular season on Thursday when they travel to Texas State for a 6 p.m. match.
