DENTON – North Texas Athletics and the Mean Green men's basketball program will host a season celebration event on Thursday, April 8 at 6 p.m. The event will take place at the Super Pit and will recognize the achievements of the 2020-21 men's basketball season. Attendance will be limited to 15% capacity.
During the 2020-21 season, the men's basketball team amassed 18 wins, including a first round upset of Purdue in the NCAA Tournament. The 78-69 win over the Boilermakers was the first-ever NCAA Tournament win for any North Texas athletic program. The victory capped a five-game postseason run that included wins over Middle Tennessee, Old Dominion, Louisiana Tech and Western Kentucky in the Conference USA Championships.
The celebration event will allow fans the opportunity to relive the thrill of the postseason and hear from vice president and director of athletics Wren Baker, head coach Grant McCasland and Mean Green men's basketball student-athletes. This portion of the evening is scheduled to take place from 7 - 7:30 p.m. A livestream will be available on the Mean Green Sports Facebook page for fans unable to attend.
Free commemorative items, including limited edition posters, will be available throughout the event. There will also be areas where fans will be able to cut down nets, throw confetti and pose for photos with the Conference USA Championship trophy.
Fans will be able to renew or purchase new season tickets for the upcoming 2021-22 men's and women's basketball seasons, as well as join or renew their membership to the Mean Green Scholarship Fund.
Gates will open at 6 p.m. and entry will be available at gates A and B. Entry is free and open to the public.
Thursday's event will follow university safety guidelines to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Face coverings will be required unless eating or drinking. Social distancing between parties will also be enforced.
