ARLINGTON, Texas – North Texas track and field will compete in the UTA Invitational April 2-3 at Maverick Stadium against Oral Roberts, Tarleton, Arkansas Pine Bluff, Texas Wesleyan, Oklahoma Baptist, Fort Scott Community College and the host team Mavericks.
On Friday, three events take place, all beginning with the women followed by the men. Hammer throw starts at 11 a.m., javelin is at 2:15 p.m., and the 5k wraps up day one at 8:30 p.m.
On Saturday, field events commence at 10 a.m., and running events begin at 11:25 a.m.
"This is one of the early meets that our distance runners will get their chance to get in some early season races," director of track and field Carl Sheffield said. "Freshmen Luke Canon and Victor Neiva have been looking good in practice. Erika Barrett should also have a good opening race of the season.
"We just want to keep getting better. Training is going well. Our goal is to compete at a high level each week, regardless of the competition. We want to stay healthy and continue to prepare for the championship season in May. We don't want to just get there. We want to raise eyebrows while we are there!"
Admission to the meet is free, and all spectators are required to wear a mask (unless eating/drinking) and social distance. There will not be concessions, but coolers and outside food/drink are permitted.
