Student-Athletes Honored During Fifth Annual Scrappys

DENTON - North Texas student-athletes were celebrated for their achievements in athletics, academics and community service during the fifth annual Scrappys ceremony Monday night.
The Scrappys, hosted virtually once again, premiered on the Mean Green Sports Facebook account and was emceed by Hank Dickenson.
The event was highlighted by the recognition of the Conference USA championship-winning performance and NCAA Tournament win over Purdue by Mean Green Men's Basketball teams.
The North Texas men's basketball team claimed the 2020-21 Conference USA Championship on March 13, 2021 in a 61-57 overtime thriller against Western Kentucky. It paved the way for Mean Green men's basketball team's first NCAA Tournament appearance since the 2009-10 season. The Mean Green defeated Purdue 78-69 in overtime for the program's first-ever NCAA Tournament victory.
Senior Mean Green softball pitcher Hope Trautwein was awarded the Individual Moment of the Year award for her performance against UAPB on April 11, 2021. Trautwein made NCAA Division I history and national headlines by throwing the first-ever recorded 21 strikeout perfect game. She threw just 77 pitches, 66 for strikes, and led the Mean Green to a 3-0 win over the Golden Lions.
