The Mean Green became the first program in school history to win a NCAA Tournament game on March 19 when they upset fourth-seeded Purdue, 78-69, in overtime in the first round.
The NCAA Tournament win came just a few days after UNT won the Conference USA Tournament title by winning four games in four days. It was the second year in a row they've won a C-USA title.
Along with winning the NCAA Tournament game, North Texas' 13-seed was the highest in program history and the win over Purdue who was ranked No. 20 in the nation was the program's first win over an AP Top 25 since 1972, After the NCAA Tournament concluded, North Texas earned a No. 55 NET ranking. It's the program's highest postseason NET/RPI ranking ever. It's only the second time they've finished in the top 100 of the NET or RPI. In 2019-20 they ended the year ranked 95th in the NET.
