The 6-foot-2 guard from Philadelphia comes to UNT from Texas A&M Corpus Christi and will be a redshirt junior this coming season for the Mean Green. Browne missed most of last season due to a medical hardship but played in six games — started all six. He averaged 9.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game last season. He was 5-of-12 (.417) from deep in those six games.
Prior to playing with the Islanders, Browne spent two seasons at the Community College of Beaver County in Pennsylvania. He averaged 13.9 points, 9.6 assists, and 3.8 steals per game while playing in all 31 games in the 2019-20 season.
After the first week of last season, Browne was named Honorable Mention for the Southland Conference Player of the Week.
Browne's first game with the Islanders last season was a tremendous introduction. He scored 20 points in 33 minutes and was 6-of-7 from the field as he led TAMUCC to a 64-53 win over Texas A&M International. He continued to have strong performances for the Islanders until his season-ending hardship, including an 11-point and eight-rebound performance against Texas State.
Browne joins a Mean Green squad that is coming off one of its most successful seasons in program history. UNT won the 2021 Conference USA Championship to earn its fourth-ever bid into the NCAA Tournament. They were a No. 13 seed in the tournament, which is the highest they've ever been seeded at the Big Dance. In the 2021 NCAA Tournament, North Texas upset fourth-seeded Purdue in the first round, 78-69 in overtime. It was the program's first-ever NCAA Tournament victory and the first time they'd beaten an AP Top 25 team since 1971.
UNT returns two starters from its championship team and Browne is expected to compete for a starting role.
Browne was raised in Philadelphia and attended Neumann Goretti High School where he was a three-time state champion. He was a second-team all-league performer, leading his team to three catholic league titles. He played AAU ball for Team Philly and Team Final with coaches Albert Crockett and Vaughn Covington.
