DENTON – The North Texas volleyball team announced its schedule for the 2021 season. The Mean Green look to return to normalcy after a shortened off-season caused by the delay of the 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
North Texas will open its 2020-2021 season at the North Texas Volleyball Center with the North Texas Invite, hosting McNeese, South Dakota State and Grambling on Aug. 27 and 28.
UNT plans on playing 26 total matches – 12 Conference USA and 14 non-conference. In addition to the North Texas Invite, the Mean Green will also host the North Texas Challenge, featuring Jackson State, Montana State and Abilene Christian. North Texas will take part in two additional tournaments on the road: the UTA Classic and the Redbird Classic, hosted by Illinois State.
Mean Green volleyball round out their non-conference schedule with Baylor and Tarleton, both in Denton. North Texas will host conference matches against Rice, Southern Miss and UTSA and face Louisiana Tech, UAB and UTEP on the road.
The 2021 Conference USA Volleyball Championships will be hosted by Old Dominion from Nov. 19-21 in Norfolk, VA. The top four teams from each C-USA division will compete for the title and earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament in December 2021.
The NCAA tournament is expected to return to a 64-team format, with 32 automatic bids and 32 at-large bids. The 2021 NCAA Volleyball Final Four will be held in Columbus, Ohio, from Dec. 16-18.
