CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. - The North Texas women's golf team had a program-record six players named to the Women's Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar list, it was announced on Tuesday.
Senior Lauren Cox (4.0 GPA), juniors Katie Finley (3.833), Patricia Sinolungan (3.551) and Audrey Tan (3.935) and sophomores Marija Jucmane (3.854) and Emilie Ricaud (3.709) were all named to the prestigious list, which has some of the most stringent criteria for selection in all of college athletics with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50 and a participation threshold of more than half of the team's tournaments from the past season.
"I am very proud to have six student-athletes named to the All-American Scholar list," UNT head coach Michael Akers said. "Our team shows that you can compete on a national level athletically while still excelling in the classroom. What these ladies accomplish on the course and in the classroom is simply incredible. They understand that sacrifices have to be made in order to achieve greatness at this level, and I am thrilled they decide to make school and golf their priority."
The six players breaks the record set last year, when the Mean Green had five players make the list before later winning the Team GPA award for placing 13th nationally among Division I teams for team GPA. The team won its first conference championship this year before seeing its NCAA Regional in Baton Rouge get canceled due to rain. The Mean Green went on to play at the Barstool Let Them Play Classic and won the event, while Tan claimed the individual title a month after winning the first individual conference championship in program history. The Mean Green finished the year ranked No. 36 in the final Golfstat national poll.
Cox and Tan were both named first-team All-Conference USA, while Finley got a third-team nod.
