DENTON — North Texas soccer's senior captain defender Brooke Lampe and junior forward Allie Byrd were voted by the league's coaches to the 2021 Conference USA Women's Soccer Preseason All-Conference team Thursday.
UNT (RV) was just one of two teams to have multiple student-athletes named to the 11-person list.
Both Lampe and Byrd are coming off a 2020-21 season where they were voted first team all-conference.
Along with being a team captain, Lampe is the leader of the Mean Green defense as their centerback. Over her four years at UNT Lampe has played every position on the field including goalkeeper. As she's gotten older her role has narrowed to defense and has helped lead UNT to 18 shutouts over the last two seasons. In last season's shortened year, Lampe was also a threat on the attack. She scored a goal at Rice and had two assists over the 11-game season.
She's assisted on five goals over the last two seasons. Following the 2019 C-USA Tournament, Lampe was named to the all-tournament team.
Byrd is coming off a 2020-21 season where she was one of the most dangerous offensive threats in not just the conference but the nation. Byrd ranked 19th in the nation in shots per game (4.0) and 36th in the nation in shots on goal per game (1.9). Both stats led the league.
The junior forward has made an all-conference team every year. As a freshman in 2019 she was voted to the C-USA All-Freshman team, C-USA Third-Team All-Conference, C-USA All-Tournament Team and was the C-USA Tournament Offensive MVP. Last season she made the jump to a first team all-conference selection.
North Texas' 2021 regular season starts Friday at 7 p.m. with a home match versus Southern. First responders receive free admission to Friday's match.
