Mean Green Set To Face Tulsa In OKC

DENTON — The defending Conference USA Tournament champion North Texas men's basketball team will face Tulsa on Dec. 21 at the Paycom Center in Oklahoma City as part of the 2021 Compete 4 Cause Classic multi-team event.
This will be the 53rd all-time meeting between the two schools who from 1957-75 both played in the Missouri Valley Conference. It will be the first time they've played since Feb. 1, 2014.

UNT is coming off a season where they captured its first Conference USA Tournament championship and earned the program's fourth-ever NCAA Tournament bid. At the 2021 NCAA March Madness Tournament, the Mean Green — seeded a program-best No. 13 — upset Purdue in the first round 78-69 (OT) to capture the program's first NCAA Tournament victory. The Mean Green enter the 2021-22 season as back-to-back C-USA champs.
They ended last season ranked No.55 in the NET. It's the highest the program has ever ended a year ranked in the NET/RPI.
The Dec. 21 double-header event will also feature USC taking on Oklahoma State.
Compete 4 Cause Classic will be one of college basketball's top-shelf events of the 2021-22 season, featuring some of the nation's premier programs.
The charitable component for Compete 4 Cause Classic will be rooted in service, inspiring the student-athletes to use their talent, notoriety and influence to impact the lives of people in the local community. The [a3] Initiative, in connection with U-Sports Group and the Compete 4 Cause Classic basketball platform, will greatly impact the OKC community and be a rewarding experience for the student-athletes and universities.
"We are very excited to unveil our third signature sporting event, Compete 4 Cause Classic," U-Sports Group President Rhossi Carron said. "As with all our USG events, the focus includes creating value that goes far beyond the games on the court. Our platform was constructed to highlight relevant social issues, with the idea of using the power of sports to create change in our communities and in ourselves. We look forward to utilizing the Compete 4 Cause Classic basketball platform to impact the lives of children in the state of Oklahoma."
