DENTON — After a 2-1 showing in the North Texas Challenge that pushed their record up to 6-3 on the season, North Texas volleyball hits the road for their fourth and final tournament of the season in the Redbird Classic, hosted by Illinois State.
North Texas will face Illinois State (3-6), Missouri (2-7), and Illinois (5-3) across two days in Normal, Illinois. They'll play Illinois State at 10 a.m. on Friday, Missouri at 5 p.m. on Friday, and Illinois at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
The Mean Green have some history with all three schools. Friday morning's meeting against the Redbirds will be the third matchup all-time between the two squads. Illinois State leads the series 2-0. Friday evening's match against Missouri is the sixth match all-time between the two programs, with Mizzou leading the series 5-0. Saturday's lone match is the second all-time against the Illini. North Texas won the only match of the series back in 1980.
Head coach Andrew Palileo says the Redbird Classic will be a good opportunity to prepare for the upcoming conference slate.
"We're going to see some very good teams against opponents from big conferences," Palileo said. "It'll give an opportunity for each player to really see where we're at as a team."
North Texas' game Friday against Illinois State will be broadcast on ESPN+. Live updates will be carried throughout the weekend on all @MeanGreenVB social channels.
