WKU Tops North Texas, 61-54

DENTON, Texas – The North Texas women's basketball team dropped its final game of the Conference USA home stand to Western Kentucky, 61-54. The Lady Toppers' bait and switch zone turned the Mean Green over a season-high 29 times on Saturday.
WKU came to Denton red-hot, and it showed. They are winners of seven straight and improved to 5-0 in C-USA play. Both of which are conference bests. It was a balanced scoring effort and pesky defense that lifted WKU over North Texas. Merel Abdelgawad notched a team-high 18 points; shooting 7-of-11 from the floor. Mya Meredith led the team in steals with six.
UNT rebounded the ball well, holding a 38-19 advantage in the game. Preseason Conference USA Player of the Year Quincy Noble scored 11 points to reach double figures for the 12th time this year. Madison Townley pulled down a team-best eight rebounds.
North Texas (7-6, C-USA 1-2) will hit the road next week to face Charlotte (Jan. 20) and Old Dominion (Jan. 22). Both games will broadcast on CUSA.TV.
QUOTING HEAD COACH JALIE MITCHELL
"It was the turnovers today. I thought we did some good things as far as out rebounding them and shooting 86.7% from the free throw line. I don't care who you are playing, when you turn the ball over 29 times it's hard to beat anybody."
