Old Dominion Drops North Texas, 67-57

NORFOLK, Va. – North Texas women's basketball fell to the Conference USA Preseason favorite, Old Dominion on Saturday, 67-57. The Monarchs dominated the glass (50-29) and points in the paint (34-26). Madison Townley pulled down four rebounds making her the all-time leading rebounder in UNT history.
In the first half, North Texas held serve with ODU. Emma Villas-Gomis hit two three-pointers from the top of the key, setting a new career-high. She scored six points tying a season-high. Aly Gamez had 10 points in the first half registering double figures for the eighth time in 12 games.
Jaylen Mallard had another productive start with 16 points and three rebounds. Mallard set a new career-high at UNT in points. In the third frame, the Mean Green pulled within two points when ODU's head coach received a technical foul. Quincy Noble missed both and the Monarchs scored a quick four points to take a six-point lead into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Old Dominion kept the Mean Green at an arm's length. The Monarchs continued to own the boards to lift them over North Texas. Jazion Jackson made it look easy from the charity stripe going, 8-10. She was one point shy of tying her season-high with 16 points. Noble and Townley both fouled out.
North Texas will return home for a homestand against Southern Miss (Jan. 27) and LA Tech (Jan. 29). Both games will broadcast on ESPN+.
