Senior LB honored for the second time in his career
DALLAS – After setting a new career-high with 19 tackles in Saturday's win over Louisiana Tech, North Texas senior LB KD Davis has earned Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week honors for the second time in his career.
Davis', who last earned the honor on Sept. 7, 2020, 19 tackles in the contest were the third-most by any FBS player this season and the most by any UNT player since 2003.
After racking up 14 tackles in the first half against the Bulldogs, Davis added five more in the second half to lead the Mean Green to a 47-27 victory as they remained unbeaten in C-USA play.
Davis now has 361 career tackles to move him into fifth on the program's all-time list past Burks Washington and Zach Orr. He is now one tackle shy of tying Lester Harper (1980-83) for fourth all-time with 361.
In addition, Davis now has 171 career solo tackles – tying him for fourth all-time with Derek Akunne (2011-14) and one back of third-place Taylor Casey (2000-03).
Davis is the second UNT player to earn C-USA Defensive Player of the Week honors joining Ridge Texada who earned the award on Oct. 3, 2022. This marks the first time since 2020 the Mean Green have had two different players earn the accolade in the same season (Davis, Dion Novil).
