DENTON — As the North Texas men's basketball season is set to tip-off within the next month, the team is looking to win a Conference USA title for a fourth consecutive season and has its eyes set on a trip back to the NCAA Tournament.
Below are notes and quotes from practice.
Huntsberry Ready To Play Significant Role
The senior transfer from the University of Mary is comfortable playing both on and off-ball. He says, "With all the athletes on the team, we have to push the ball. We have a lot of people that can shoot, so I want to drive and push it out to our shooters."
Huntsberry Committed To Defense
At 6-foot-3, Huntsberry is versatile and can pose a threat to teams on both ends of the floor and brings a competitive edge to defense noting, "Anyone can score, not everyone can play defense".
Morgan Is Ready
With a similar goal in mind to Huntsberry, 6-foot-8 redshirt freshman Chris Morgan hopes to be a defensive anchor for the Mean Green. After using last season to redshirt, Morgan says "This year I'm focused on guarding ball screens, playing good defense, and staying at the rim to be the help man. I just want to be a QB back there, big communication".
In addition to his strong defensive prowess, Morgan has also been focused on improving his offensive impact.
"I'm trying to get into the middle of the paint and into my hook," Morgan said. "I'm also working on my face up game and scoring more off the pick and roll".
Perry Is All About Winning
Reigning Conference USA First Team All-Conference and Sixth-Man of the Year, Tylor Perry, is set to take on an even greater leadership role this season with high expectations. And this season Perry is all about winning.
When asked about his goals for this season, Perry said, "Just win. It was heartbreaking losing to LA Tech last year."
This season's emphasis for Perry is being consistent and being a good teammate.
