DENTON — Riding a two-match winning streak, the North Texas women's soccer team heads to UTEP Sunday for a chance to capture its 10th overall win of the season.
The Mean Green (9-5-2, 5-2-1), who secured their 28th consecutive winning season last week with a 3-1 home victory over UTSA, are taking on a Miners (4-9-3, 1-5-2) program who they haven't lost to since 2005 and are on an eight-match unbeaten streak against.
Sunday's match in El Paso is scheduled to kick-off at noon CT and will be streamed on CUSA.tv.
North Texas enters Sunday's match sitting in third place of the league standings with still an opportunity to move into second before the regular season concludes next week. UTEP heads into the contest in ninth place and on the outside looking in of the 2022 Conference USA Championship. The top eight teams qualify for the C-USA Championship. A win Sunday for UTEP combined with a Charlotte loss to FIU would propel the Miners into a top eight position.
The 2022 C-USA Championship begins Nov. 2. Charlotte is hosting the tournament this season.
The Mean Green beat UTEP last season, 3-0, in Denton. Current UNT forwards Devyn Flannery and Madi Drenowatz each scored in the shutout victory. Flannery, a third-year junior, has scored two career goals versus the Miners.
Following Sunday's contest at UTEP, the Mean Green return home on Oct. 29 for the regular season finale. They'll host Louisiana Tech at 7 p.m. CT.
