DALLAS - After tying for ninth place this week at the Battle at the Beach, graduate student Audrey Tan was named the Conference USA Golfer of the Week, presented by Blenders Eyewear, the league announced on Wednesday.Â
The nod for Tan marks eight straight conference weekly awards for the program in weeks the team played, dating back to last season. It's the fifth for Tan in that stretch and the eighth of her career.
Tan's T9 finish led her team to a 10th place finish in the event. She shot a 69-70-72 to finish at 2-under for the event. Tan brought her season stroke average down to 71.67, which leads the team. She tied for seventh in the field in par-4 scoring (-1). The event in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, featured 10 top-50 teams and 20 top-100 individuals.
"It seems like another tournament, another Golfer of the Week award for Audrey," UNT head coach Michael Akers said. "She played very solid in Cabo against extremely good competition. I was most impressed with her comeback in the final round. She struggled early but kept fighting and birdied four of her last five holes. Audrey had a great fall, and I'm excited to see her compete in the spring."
The Mean Green will return to action Jan. 16, when they travel to Houston for a dual with the Cougars to start the spring slate.
Fans can follow the program throughout the season on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram and can check MeanGreenSports.com for tournament recaps and more.
