CABO SAN LUCAS, BCS, Mexico - Graduate Audrey Tan tied for ninth on the individual leaderboard and led the North Texas women's golf team to a 10th place finish at the Battle at the Beach on Sunday at Club Campestre San Jose.
Tan shot a 1-over 72 on Sunday to finish the three-day event at 2-under par in a tie for ninth place, while three players - graduate Patricia Sinolungan, sophomore Sakura Sugiyama and junior Shreya Pal all shot even-par 71s to help the Mean Green to a 1-over-par final round, which was their best round of the tournament as a team.
The Mean Green finished 10th in a loaded field that featured 10 top-50 teams and 20 players ranked in the top 100 nationally.
"I am very pleased with the way we fought back in the final round," UNT head coach Michael Akers said. "Everyone grinded and we posted a solid score. Round 2 put us back in the standings but the field was very strong. I'm certainly pointing out to the team that we look just as good, if not better than, some of these top-25 teams. For us, it's all about being consistent for three rounds and not blowing up. Everyone is going to have a bad round at some point, and we need to minimize those to a 74. The overall trip was amazing and we appreciate TCU for hosting and inviting us."
Senior Emilie Ricaud posted the second-best showing for the Mean Green in the tournament, tying for 29th at 4-over par after a 2-over 73 on Sunday.
The Mean Green finished tied for third in the field in Par-5 scoring (-6) and tied for fourth in total birdies with 46.Â
UNT will now prepare for the spring schedule, which will begin with a dual at Houston on Jan. 16, before its first tournament of the spring, the UCF Invitational in Orlando, Florida, on Feb. 5-7.
