DENTON - The two-time defending Conference USA champion women's golf team will open up its spring schedule on Monday with a dual match-play event against Houston and get a sneak peak at the new course hosting the ICON Invitational, which will take place next month in Houston.
The Mean Green will have eight players competing in a team format with four teams of UNT players going against four teams of players from Houston with the front nine will be a low ball format, where the best score between the partners counts for each hole. The back nine will be an alternating shot format.
UNT's teams will be Audrey Tan and Patricia Sinolungan, Emilie Ricaud and Sakura Sugiyama, Shreya Pal and Mason Lewis and Ellie Roth and Mallorie Luitwieler.
"We are grateful to (Houston head coach) Lydia (Gumm) and UH for setting up this match," UNT head coach Michael Akers said. "This is a great opportunity to get back into competition mode and also a time for our team to bond. I thought it was important to get going right away after break, as our first tournament is much earlier than most seasons. The format is certainly different from a typical college event but will be fun and put some pressure on the players."
UNT will play its first tournament of the spring at the UCF Challenge in Orlando, Florida, on Feb. 5-7.
Fans can keep up with the program all season on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
