
Soccer Opens C-USA Tournament Wednesday Versus WKU

BOWLING GREEN, Kentucky — The 16-time conference champion North Texas women's soccer team begins the 2022 Conference USA Championship on Wednesday versus Western Kentucky in the quarterfinals.
The Mean Green, who earned the second seed in the eight-team single-elimination tournament are scheduled to kick-off against WKU at 10 a.m. CT. The first-round match will be the first of the 2022 tournament.
North Texas (11-5-2, 7-2-1), who has won more C-USA titles than any current or past women's soccer program in the league's 28-year history, is aiming to capture one final Conference USA trophy before departing next season for the American.
Western Kentucky is one of North Texas' oldest rivals, dating back to the days in Sun Belt Conference. Wednesday will be the 27th all-time meeting between the two schools. North Texas leads the series history, 16-7-3.
North Texas beat WKU, 1-0, in Bowling Green, Kentucky, on Sept. 25. The Mean Green have not lost to Western Kentucky since the Sun Belt days. Their last lost to the Lady Toppers came in 2012. UNT is on a seven-match unbeaten streak versus WKU.
Wednesday will be the first time North Texas and WKU have met in the conference tournament since 2015. North Texas beat WKU in the first round of the 2015 C-USA Tournament, 1-0. That season UNT was the No. 1 seed and WKU was No. 8. The 2015 tournament was hosted by FIU.
North Texas enters Wednesday's contest on a four-match winning streak and have outscored its last four opponents 9-3. North Texas is 6-1-1 over its last eight matches with the one loss coming against No. 1 seed Rice in Houston on Oct. 9.
