Women's Golf Signs Two To Join Program For 23-24

DENTON - UNT women's golf coach Michael Akers announced two additions to his program on Thursday as the seventh-year coach added two international student-athletes, both of whom will join the program next year.
The Mean Green will add Germany's Katharina Anglett and Bouquet Subsomboon, from Thailand, and both are set to join the Mean Green in August 2023, after signing their national letters of intent.
"I am very excited to sign both Bouquet and Katharina," UNT head coach Michael Akers said. The No. 1 key for success in college athletics is to sign the correct young people. This has been my strength over the years. I feel good that both of these young ladies will fit into our program perfectly. I am looking for hard workers who want to pursue a career in professional golf. That is not to distract from obtaining a degree while earning As and Bs. I believe that Katharina and Bouquet will do great in the classroom and on the golf course."
Anglett hails from Boeblingen, Germany, and has an extensive sports background, which always appeals to Akers, as well. She has a longtime background in gymnastics, as well as golf, as she was a competitive gymnast for five years. On the course, she's excelled as a member of the German Junior National Team and over the past 18 months has five top-5 finishes including a win at the Trophee Cartier U18 in Paris and a second-place showing at the Austrian Girls U18 Championship.
Subsomboon is from Bangkok, Thailand, and has two recent wins on the TJGA – the Junior Golf Tour Foresight Sports Junior Championship and the TJGGA Open Championship.

"Katharina comes highly recommended from a swing coach I have known for years. She will be the first German I have coached and I am excited about that. Katharina is a very committed golfer and has tremendous potential. She has a gymnastics background and is very athletic. I think given our weather and resources she will really elevate her game here at UNT."
Coach Akers on Bouquet Subsomboon...
"Bouquet has been on my radar for a while. I watched her play in San Diego in 2021. I really liked her swing and grades but did more research to find out she works really hard. When she committed to UNT she was ranked around 1,300 in the world now she is ranked in the top 500. I believe Bouquet will make an immediate impact on our program."
