UNT looking to start back-to-back seasons 2-0
DENTON, Texas (Nov. 15, 2022) – Coming off a season-opening win over Texas A&M-Texarkana last Thursday, North Texas takes on its first NCAA opponent Wednesday when they welcome SFA to the Super Pit.
It will be the 30th all-time matchup between the old Southland Conference foes. SFA holds a 27-2 all-time series lead but UNT has won each of the last two meetings in Denton. The Ladyjacks and Mean Green played against each other every year from 1986-87 to 1995-96 as members of the Southland.
UNT picked up a 71-58 win over Texas A&M-Texarkana to open the season. The Mean Green will be looking to start the year 2-0 for the second straight season, something they haven't done since 1999-00, 2000-01.
The Mean Green are coming off one of their best seasons in 2021-22, earning a berth in the Women's NIT for the first time since 2002 when now head coach Jalie Mitchell won Sun Belt Player of the Year honors and led the Mean Green to the WNIT in back-to-back season.
SFA comes into the contest with a 2-1 record, having already played a pair of C-USA opponents in UTSA (Win) and Rice (Loss).

Scouting SFA
- Stephen F. Austin comes into the 2022-23 season with high hopes after an extremely successful 2021-22 campaign.
- The Ladyjacks went 28-5 last season and 15-1 in WAC play as they earned a spot in the NCAA Tournament.
- SFA is no stranger to competition against C-USA, with two of their three games this season against UTSA and Rice. The Ladyjacks knocked off UTSA in their season opener before falling to Rice last Thursday.
- The leading scorer for the Ladyjacks is junior Kurstyn Harden. A transfer from Northern Colorado, Harden is averaging 15.3 points per game off the bench this season.
- The top scoring starter for SFA is graduate student Aiyana Johnson who is putting up 14.0 points per game through three contests.
- Junior Avery Bittingham is the leading rebounder for the Ladyjacks with 7.7 boards per game. Bittingham also averages double figures in scoring at 12.0 points per game.
- UNT will be led this season by two-time All-Conference performer Quincy Noble, who was named to the Preseason All-C-USA team prior to the season. Noble led the Mean Green with 14.4 points per game a season ago en route to earning Second Team All-CUSA honors.
- Also returning to the roster is junior Tommisha Lampkin who appeared in 28 games a season ago and averaged 5.4 points per contest. Lampkin led the Mean Green with 22 points in the exhibition win over Texas A&M International.
- The Mean Green will feature a vastly new lineup in 22-23 with nine newcomers to the roster including five transfers and four new freshmen.
- The fresh faces are highlighted by junior Jaaucklyn Moore, who comes to UNT after two extremely successful seasons at UIW. Last season, Moore led the Cardinals to their first-ever NCAA Tournament as they won the Southland Tournament title and was named a First Team All-Southland Conference performer.
- UNT also added four talented freshmen, one of which, Breanna Davis, comes to UNT with a family pedigree. Davis' father, Chris, was selected to the UNT Hall of Fame in 2008. Davis scored 10 points in her collegiate debut against Texas A&M-Texarkana.
- Junior Tommisha Lampkin had a career day with 17 points and 15 rebounds to lead North Texas to a 71-58 win over Texas A&M-Texarkana in the season opener.
- Lampkin, who registered a double-double before halftime, went 8 for 11 from the floor and set a new career-high in both points and rebounds for the second double-double of her career.
- Newcomers Jaaucklyn Moore and Breanna Davis also scored in double figures as Moore finished with 13 and Davis added 10 in their debuts in a UNT uniform.
- As a team, UNT held the Eagles to 28.9 percent shooting from the floor and just 18.2 percent from 3-point range as they swelled the lead to 16 by halftime and held on for the 13-point victory.
- The Mean Green have now won each of their last three season openers and five of their last six dating back to the 2017-18 season.
- Maddie Cleary finished the game with eight points as did senior Quincy Noble who was tied with Moore for the second-most boards in the game.
- Along with Moore and Davis, Ereauna Hardaway, Jordyn Carter, Jasmyne Boles and Courtlyn Loudermill all made their UNT debuts in the contest.
- UNT Food Pantry Food Drive: Bring a canned food to support the UNT Food Pantry.
- A free iPad will be awarded to one student at halftime courtesy of the Credit Union of Texas.
- The UNT Maniacs will pre-game tailgate outside of Gate B. There will be food, face painting and sign making.
