DALLAS – North Texas volleyball junior Sh'Diamond Holly was named Conference USA Defensive Player of the Year, while Treyaunna Rush earned first-team honors and Aryn Johnson collected a second-team selection, the league announced on Thursday.
Holly becomes the first player in UNT volleyball history to claim the award and first superlative award winner since Barbara Martin was named C-USA Freshman of the Year in 2017. In her first season with the Mean Green, Holly is leading the conference with 145 total blocks, the most by a UNT player since Courtney Windham totaled 170 in 2012. She is currently fifth on the North Texas single-season total blocks list, needing seven to move into fourth place.
Along with Holly, opposite hitter Treyaunna Rush also earned a first team selection, marking the fifth occasion in which two or more Mean Green players were chosen to represent the top team and first since 2019. Rush is ranked second in C-USA and 40th in the country with 397 kills. She has tallied double-digit kills in the last four matches, including 19 finishes in a three-set sweep of Middle Tennessee on Nov. 6.
Sophomore Aryn Johnson garnered second team honors after accumulating 183 kills on 485 attacks in C-USA matches, ranking fifth in the league. In league play, she adds 93 digs, 26 blocks and 10 service aces. Johnson has tallied double-digit point totals in nine of the last 10 matches, topping out with 27.5 points at UTSA and LA Tech on Oct. 16 and 23, respectively.
The three overall selections match last season's total in which Rhett Robinson (first team), Sarah Haeussler (second team) and Andrea Owens (freshman team) were honored.
North Texas will compete in the quarterfinals of the C-USA Championship against UAB on Friday at 2 p.m. CT. The match will be streamed live on ESPN+.
