
Volleyball Venture to No. 21 Rice

HOUSTON – UNT volleyball is set to travel for a Conference USA matchup against No. 21 Rice at Tudor Fieldhouse on Friday at 6 p.m. The match will be streamed on CUSA.tv.
North Texas (12-13, 6-4) won a pair of C-USA contests against UTSA and UTEP on Friday and Sunday, respectively. The Mean Green held its opponents to a combined .156 attack percentage in the two matches. In conference play, UNT is currently third with a .180 hitting percentage allowed over 42 sets.
Reigning C-USA Defensive Player of the Week Aleeyah Galdeira has an opportunity to move up the UNT record book on Friday. She is currently in fifth place on the North Texas career digs list with 1,277 and only needs six to pass Corina Marginas (2000-03) for fourth. Galdeira also entered the top 10 in program history for her single-season mark of 439 digs, needing three for sole possession of eighth place and 23 for seventh.
Outside hitter Aryn Johnson leads the team with 149 kills on 389 attacks in C-USA matches, adding 68 digs, 21 blocks and seven aces. Sh'Diamond Holly is 10th in the nation with 123 total blocks and top 50 at 1.28 blocks per set, leading C-USA in each category. Holly enters the match in seventh all-time for both single-season total blocks and block assists for the Mean Green.
No. 21 Rice (20-2, 10-0) is on a five-match winning streak, including sweeps in the last three. The Mean Green pushed the Owls to five-sets in the last meeting between the two teams on Sept. 30 in Denton. North Texas is 6-18 versus Rice with the last win on Oct. 27, 2017.
