DENTON — Winners of four of its last five, the North Texas men's basketball team is back home Saturday afternoon to host the Omaha Mavericks for a weekend non-conference matchup.
UNT (5-2) and Omaha (3-5) are scheduled to tip-off at 5 p.m. CT from the Super Pit. The game will be streamed on ESPN+ and the Mean Green Sports Network, presented by Learfield on the Varsity Network app.
This is the first all-time meeting between the Mean Green and UNO.
However, for North Texas newcomer Tyree Eady it will be the 10th time he has faced the Mavericks. The North Dakota State transfer used to play in the same conference as Omaha. In four seasons at NDSU, Eady helped lead the Bison to a 7-2 record versus UNO, including beating them 73-63 in the 2019 Summit League Tournament championship game to earn an automatic bid into the 2019 NCAA Tournament.
Eady enters Saturday's contest having won seven straight over the Mavericks and averaging 8.0 points per game and 4.1 rebounds per game in the nine all-time previous meetings.
UNO will be challenged Saturday with trying to score against the Mean Green who once again feature one of the nation's top defenses. North Texas, which led the nation last year in scoring defense (55.7 ppg) is giving up just 52.0 points per contest this year and have yet to give up more than 63 points this season.
Reigning first team all-conference UNT guard Tylor Perry has started this season similar to how he started last year. Perry is averaging 19.0 points per game and shooting over 50 percent from deep with 18 3-pointers made so far in just five games played. Last Friday in North Texas' 69-54 win over San Jose State, Perry dropped a career-high 35 points on 9-of-12 shooting and a perfect 7-of-7 shooting from deep.
