UNT puts three players in double figures in the loss
STILLWATER, Okla. (Dec. 3, 2022) – Junior Quincy Noble scored 22 points to lead North Texas, but the Mean Green fell 82-64 Saturday afternoon against Oklahoma State at Gallagher-Iba Arena.
Noble has now scored at least 20 points in three of her last five games as she is now averaging 18.2 points per game this season, a mark that leads C-USA.
The Mean Green are now 2-5 overall this season while the Cowgirls improved to 7-2.
OSU opened the game hot, scoring 10 of the first 12 points to take an early eight-point edge fueled by back-to-back 3-pointers.
The Mean Green answered back with a quick 7-0 run that saw junior Kendall McGruder score five straight to cut the deficit to one at 10-9.
With the score 21-16 in favor of the Cowgirls, OSU rattled off 10 straight points to swell the lead from five to 15 as they led 31-16 with 4:31 left in the first half.
The Cowgirls knocked down seven 3-pointers in the first half, including a 3 for 5 effort from deep by Lior Garzon who had 13 first half points.
The third quarter was a back-and-forth affair throughout, with each team scoring 21 points in the period.
Junior Jordyn Carter highlighted the third as she scored 10 points to reach double figures for the first time in a UNT uniform. Carter scored eight consecutive points in a three-minute span to keep the Mean Green in the contest.
The Mean Green continued to fight in the fourth, twice cutting the deficit down to as low as 14 points including after a 7-0 run fueled by five points from Aniyah Johnson.
It was not enough, however, as the Cowgirls shot 47.0 percent from the floor and outrebounded UNT 48-28 to take home the 18-point win.
Kendall McGruder also scored in double figures for UNT, chipping in 10 points in just 20 minutes of game action to give the Mean Green three players with at least 10 points.
Quoting Coach Mitchell
"We have got to correct the start to the game as soon as possible, and we will. Rebounding was also lopsided at half. That's something that is huge for our team and we have to get that fixed. We got outscored 15-2 in second chance points, which was also huge. I thought Jordyn came off the bench and gave us some good minutes and Kendall did as well coming off the bench. I think its really huge that everybody contribute and everybody give what they are able to give when they come on so we can find that consistency with this team."
