Women’s Basketball Closes Road Trip with Contest at FIU

MIAMI (Dec. 30, 2022) – After almost pulling off a remarkable comeback Thursday night against FAU, North Texas returns to action Saturday with a quick turnaround as they look to grab their first conference win in Miami against FIU.

It will be the 25th all-time meeting between the two programs with UNT holding a 13-11 edge. UNT comes into the contest having won six of the last seven games between the two programs dating back to the 2013-14 season.

FIU heads into the contest at 5-5 overall and 0-1 in conference play, dropping their first C-USA game against FAU. The Panthers have a pair of common opponents with UNT having knocked off Howard and before dropping a contest against the Owls.

Quick Hitters

Senior Quincy Noble leads UNT offensively with 18.6 points per game this season, a figure that ranks second in Conference USA. Noble has scored in double figures in each of the last 10 games for North Texas, including a 25-point performance last time out against FAU.
The senior out of McKinney, Texas, needs just four more to become the 15th player in program history to reach 1,000 points in their time with the Mean Green.
Junior forward Tommisha Lampkin has been one of the top post players in C-USA, sitting second in the league both rebounds and blocked shots per game.
UNT will be looking to avoid starting conference play 0-2 for the first time since 2014-15.
The matchup will be the final of seven consecutive road games before returning home Thursday to play Western Kentucky.

UNT holds a narrow 13-11 edge in the series and has won six of the last seven matchups dating back to the 2013-14 season.
Despite sharing the same conference, the two teams have not squared off since Jan. 9, 2020 when FIU took home a 58-56 win in Miami to snap a six-game winning streak for the Mean Green.
Jalie Mitchell is 4-1 all-time against FIU and holds a 2-1 record inside Ocean Bank Convocation Center.

The Mean Green and the Panthers share a pair of common opponents this season in Howard and FAU. Both teams took down the BIson before falling to the owls to open C-USA play.
FIU is led offensively by Sifa Joyeuse who is averaging 13.7 points per game this season. Joyeuse sits third in C-USA this season shooting 37.5 percent from 3-point range.
Kaliah Henderson is also averaging 10.0+ points per game at 11.2 PPG. Along with teammate Tanajah Hayes, the Panthers have two of the top three players in the conference in steals per game.
FIU is one of the best rebounding teams in the country, averaging a league-best 43.6 rebounds per game. Specifically, the Panthers crash the offensive glass hard ranking sixth in Division I with 17.7 offensive rebounds per game.
